On Sunday, December 13, at 8pm Eastern, the History Channel will be airing a documentary called “The People Speak,” produced by such recognizable names as Matt Damon, Josh Brolin, and acclaimed historian Howard Zinn.
The website says: “Democracy is not a spectator sport. Using dramatic and musical performances of the letters, diaries and speeches of everyday Americans, ‘The People Speak’ gives voice to those who spoke up for social change throughout U.S. history, forging a nation from the bottom up with their insistence on equality and justice. Narrated by Howard Zinn and based on his best-selling books, A People's History of the United States and Voices of a People's History of the United States, ‘The People Speak’ illustrates the relevance of these passionate historical moments to our society today and reminds us never to take liberty for granted.”
For anyone interested in politics, diplomacy, patriotism, or history, this documentary should be a must-see. It will take an in-depth look at the power of the individual, in America, to make a difference in society. America is mending its wounds, and its citizens could use some inspiration. Matt Damon will give a reading of the Declaration of Independence, the document that started it all, to remind us where we came from, and how important we are as individuals.
Other performers will include Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Danny Glover, David Strathairn, Don Cheadle, Eddie Vedder, John Legend, Josh Brolin, Lupe Fiasco, Marisa Tomei, Morgan Freeman, Rosario Dawson, Sandra Oh, and Viggo Mortensen. Remember what our country is all about.
Tune in and be inspired.
